The following statement explains our policy regarding the personal information we collect about you.

1. Statement of intent

On registering an account and on other occasions, you may be asked to submit personal information about yourself (e.g. name and email address etc) in order to use the services we offer. In addition to registering to use our service we may also send communications such as newsletters, service updates, promotions or competitions.

By entering your details as requested, you enable MyBoatDetails.com to provide you with the services you select. Whenever you provide such personal information, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy. MyBoatDetails.com will act in accordance with current legislation and aim to meet current Internet best practice.

2. Information on site visitors

During the course of any visit to MyBoatDetails.com, the pages viewed are downloaded to your computer. A "cookie" is created when visitors register or logon.

The majority of websites use cookies as they allow the site publisher to find out whether the computer has visited the site before, for example, and provide information as appropriate.

Any information or data supplied by cookies help us to provide you with a better service. It is not possible to collect any data on your computer that you do not agree to share with us.

MyBoatDetails.com use cookies in two ways

i. To initialise and maintain a "session".

The purpose of this is mainly security and your convenience. In order for you to retrieve or enter your boat details we need to know who you are. So you only have to log on once we maintain a "session" which is a collection of variables shared between various pages on our site you visit. The cookie simply identifies the session and is removed once you log out or close your browser.

Note - some browsers do not display this cookie and you can use the site if you choose to turn cookies off.

ii. To remember your logon

If you check the "remember" on the logon page after entering your details, a cookie will be created on your computer so you don't need to enter your email address to logon the next time. If you never check the "remember" box the cookie will not be created and if you uncheck it once the cookie has been created, the cookie will be destroyed.

If you choose to turn cookies off you can still use all areas of the site, the logon page will not remember your email address so you will have to type it in each time you log in.

3. What are cookies?

Often when you visit websites a cookie will automatically be created on your computer. Cookies are simply text files that identify your computer to a web server. Cookies cannot identify the individual user, nor any data on your computer, just the computer used. If you've ever bought from a website using a "shopping cart", the chances are you've used a cookie.

4. Submitting personal information

When you supply any personal information to MyBoatDetails.com we have legal obligations towards you in the way we deal with that data. We have to collect the information fairly and must explain how it is used.

In general, any information you provide to MyBoatDetails.com will only be used within MyBoatDetails.com. We will not supply it to anyone outside MyBoatDetails.com without first obtaining your consent, unless we are obliged by law to disclose it.

We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as you use the service you have requested.

Registering with MyBoatDetails.com means that your information supplied be used to allow the MyBoatDetails.com to contact you for "service administration purposes", this means that the MyBoatDetails.com may contact you for a number of purposes related to the service you have signed up for.

We may need to provide you with password reminders or notify you that the particular service has been changed or suspended for maintenance or upgrades.

5. Access to your personal information

You have the right to request a copy of the personal information the MyBoatDetails.com holds about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. (We charge £10 for information requests.) Please send any requests to our Data Protection department by emailing info_mbd@myboatdetails.com.

6. Users 16 and under

If you are aged 16 or under, please get your parent/guardian's permission beforehand whenever you provide personal information to the MyBoatDetails.com's website. Users without this consent are not allowed to provide us with personal information. Payment is required credit card which will have to be issued by someone of the appropriate age.
